Principal's Message
Dear Hillcrest Parents and Families,
"It takes a village to raise a child"—African Proverb
Research says that in order for children to grow in a safe and healthy environment, it takes a community, a village, to work together to ensure success. As the new principal of Hillcrest School, I am proud to be a part of your “village” and community.
I know this past school year has been incredibly unique. I want to assure you that this school year we will work together to ensure that our students continue to develop a love for learning and an academic foundation that ensures future success. It is imperative that our youngest learners’ brains are prepared for rigorous instruction by emphasizing the value of social and emotional health all while having high expectations for success. Furthermore, our Hillcrest Teachers and Staff are dedicated, caring professionals, devoted to working together to support each student as they grow academically, socially and emotionally.
Hillcrest is an exceptional pre-kindergarten through second grade school with approximately 300 students. Our curriculum at Hillcrest exposes our students to rich, hands-on learning experiences and discoveries. The Balanced Literacy approach we use at Hillcrest, incorporates components which enhance each child’s reading, writing, and language skills. These components include reading and writing workshop, guided reading, shared reading and writing, interactive writing and Word Study. In mathematics, students apply problem-solving strategies and computational skills to decipher real-life problems. Furthermore, we offer related arts classes in the areas of physical education, science, library, computers, art and music. Our character education and growth mindset program employs a positive, proactive approach which is embedded in the Hillcrest School Culture.
One of the most important components of an effective school is the partnership and connection between home and school. Hillcrest is proud of our devoted and supportive Home and School Association. Our strong partnership creates meaningful and enriching learning opportunities and events for our Hillcrest students.
We are a community of learners, and strive to provide diverse educational opportunities for our students. Our goal is to develop the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and character that children need to reach their individual potential and create a foundation for lifelong learning.
Keep smiling,
Lisa Fischman, Principal
